From North West Africa (NWA) Unclassified (Chondrites)
Most
NWA
material is UNCLASSIFIED meteorites found in the northwest
of Africa in the deep reaches of the Sahara Desert. Nomads
travel far out across the barren lands to retreive these
specimens off the desert floor and bring them back to
Morocco where they are distributed through a network of
meteorite dealers and wholesalers. Almost ALL
meteorites that come from that region of the world in
Africa are not classified because they're moved from their
strewn
fields with no documentation, coordinates, or name
places, which make classification
difficult if not impossible.
For a meteorite to be classified
by the Meteoritical Society it must pass a rigorous number
of scientific tests and be thouroughly documented from
location, type, chemical composition, & many other
tests. Most NWA meteorites cannot be classified due to
the lack of documentation of the find. Many very nice
specimens have been found such as the NWA
2373 Martian Meteorite which is a (basaltic
shergottite) meteorite that sells for over $1000 per
