Augusta Georgia Fireball: BIG BOOM! March 20th 2009

March 20th 2009: Barely a month after a meteorite fell in West, Texas, there’s been another fireball and explosion witnessed in the USA, this time in Georgia. Reports say that around 3am Friday morning residents in the Augusta Georgia area experienced a explosive event. Some witnesses describe it like this:

“…I was waken up by a huge blast sound at 2:53 a.m. It sounded like thunder or an explosion….”

“…I heard a tremendous noise that shook my house….”

“…ALSO HEARD AND FELT THE BOOM/EXPLOSION. I ALSO THOUGHT IT WAS THUNDER BUT FELT LIKE IT WASN’T THE NORMAL THUNDER SOUND. IF SOMETHING CRASHED, THERE SHOULD BE DEBRIS. KEEP US POSTED…”

“…I heard a HUGE bang around 3:00 this morning and thought it was LOUD thunder!…”

“…I heard a noise that sounded like an explosion. It shook the house it was so loud….”

“…I really thought it was an earthquake…!  It shook my house and rattle things on the wall it was so hard…”

“..Two Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputies reportedly saw a fireball in the sky..” according to a report on WJBF Channel 6 News website here: http://www.wjbf.com/jbf/news/state_regional/georgia/article/breaking_news_mysterious_boom_rattles_csra/11990/

After speaking with someone from news station I received a report stating that there was I “windy like” sound, and that it sounds like it was raining outside, but when the witness looked outside it was clear. The witness said that their house shook.

There’s also taped interviews with eyewitnesses: http://www.wjbf.com/

More to come…
